AWBAT®

AWBAT® is an Advanced Wound Bioengineered Alternative Tissue that has properties and attributes reported to be necessary for a temporary Skin Substitute (see references below). It is composed of a very thin, porous silicone membrane bonded to a finely knit nylon fabric, which is coated with a non-toxic mixture of porcine collagen peptides. The design allows for exudate removal, gaseous transmission, control of water vapor loss, flexibility, conformability and controlled adherence. AWBAT® is a temporary wound dressing for coverage of superficial partial-thickness burn wounds, donor sites, and meshed autografts until healing occurs and is available in three configurations: AWBAT®-S, AWBAT®-D and AWBAT®-M.

Significant design changes to the silicone-nylon membrane include increased porosity of the silicone layer and the continuity of the three-dimensional nylon structure. Additional changes include the elimination of the crosslinking agents, cyanuric acid and dodecylamine, utilized in other dressings to covalently bond the porcine Type 1 collagen peptide to the silicone-nylon membrane.

AWBAT® has been designed with key wound care improvement goals in mind.

Better acute adherence
Mobile collagen peptides, which are not covalently bonded, are intended to interact more quickly with fibrin in the wound, which would allow better acute adherence during the initial phase of wound closure. More optimized porosity.

Better moisture permeability
control through an increase in and more uniform distribution of porosity. AWBAT® has been engineered with the objective of optimizing porosity and occlusiveness, thereby reducing the potential for fluid accumulation beneath the membrane. Better porosity and occlusiveness reduces the potential for endogenous bacterial proliferation, while allowing rapid reepithealization in a moist (not wet) environment.

Better safety
through the elimination of cross-linking agents. The mobile collagen peptides contain NO allergenic cross-linking agents. Elimination of potential allergens reduces product risk.

Better coverage options
through a wide variety of sizes. AWBAT® is manufactured in a variety of sizes to effectively address clinical needs and minimize product waste.

AWBAT®-S: Superficial Wound Dressing:
AWBAT®-S: is recommended for clean, Superficial burn wounds." Designed with a specific porosity and depth of 3-dimensional nylon structure in mind, AWBAT®-S is the ideal version of AWBAT® to cover the clean & debrided superficial partial-thickness wounds, including scald burns.

AWBAT®-D: Donor Site Wound Dressing:
AWBAT®-D: is recommended for Donor sites after hemostasis has been established." AWBAT®’s increased porosity and depth of 3-dimensional nylon structure are designed to take into account the specific drainage and adhesion needs of donor site wounds.

AWBAT®-M: Meshed Autograph Wound Dressing:
AWBAT®-M: is recommended as a protective covering for Meshed autografts." AWBAT®-M has been designed with the increased porosity and a decreased depth of 3-dimensional nylon structure to provide a reduced secondary adherence to work best over meshed autographs.

AWBAT®-S Gloves
Hands are a difficult area to cover and to keep free of infection. AWBAT®-S Gloves present a solution for this difficult location. The Glove’s strechability and flexibility have been designed to allow for ease of application and for the best possible range of motion post-application.

AWBAT® is designed to able to be provided in square and rectangular sizes from 6" x 6" to 24" x 24". Variable sizing allows for appropriate wound coverage in an effort to eliminate seams, reduce waste, and reduce time in the operating room. Current sizing avaliability is as listed:
