Testimonials

"Dr. Aubrey Woodroof, whom I have known since the 1970s (over a quarter of a century), is a successful, innovative scientist. His accomplishments as the inventor and developer of a skin substitute which is widely used in the treatment of burn patients and patients with other types of skin defects amply document his capabilities, have set him apart from his peers, and have provided him with national and international recognition. Dr. Woodroof's industry and perseverance, as well as his integrity and willingness to adapt his efforts in response to the results and outcomes of ongoing studies, were abundantly evident in his development of the skin substitute Biobrane.

Dr. Woodroof has informed me that he is presently developing a new membrane, which he has designed to have better porosity and improved occlusiveness and acute adherence as compared to other membranes. On completion of the design process, he will begin the lengthy process of documenting the safety and efficacy required for ultimate FDA approval of the new membrane. On the basis of Dr. Woodroof's expertise in the field of biomaterials, his prior success with Biobrane, and his personal characteristics, I believe that it is entirely possible, indeed likely, that he will develop an improved skin substitute.

The development process described in the [business] plan and the completeness of the information provided clearly reflects your familiarity with the science involved and your experience in the business world. The quality of the plan is certain to ensure the success of the initial offering."

"Aubrey Woodroof is the scientist most scientists want to emulate but can never achieve. Yes, he has all the scientific credentials but one might say, "so do many others." The difference is Aubrey is a tireless innovator. Once he zeros in on a novel idea, he relentlessly pursues it to the ultimate goal of success, and I mean relentlessness.

I first met Aubrey in 1979, after he had developed one of his greatest creations, a revolutionary temporary skin substitute product called "Biobrane" that the burn care field was desperately seeking. He used his sharp creative skills and his sharp mind to develop a product that was the prototype of all temporary skin substitutes to be developed in the future. The combination of a physical scaffold, a biologically active inner layer and an impermeable outer barrier layer was brilliant. But unlike the typical, "locked in the lab" chemist, Aubrey is also a real person, friendly, totally honest, funny and an overall "genuine guy." He quickly made friends in the burn care community, a difficult task indeed, and began to hold meetings where he explained his hypothesis on wound closure like a scholar teaching a class. His new product, would eventually become a true gift to the burn patient. A unique character trait was and is his ability to accept and utilize recommendations and friendly critiques on how to further improve his Biobrane® formulation accordingly. Needless to day, his novel idea was incredibly successful, and is, to this day.

Now he has developed a newer and better idea and is embarking on a new scientific journey, which undoubtedly will be successful as well.

Aubrey's expertise is a double-whammy, as he is also an incredible businessman. Indeed, throughout his career he has proven himself to be a valuable asset to both the scientific and business communities, in essence he is a true double threat. Unfortunately I cannot really identify with this quality, as I myself do not have it.

I have always appreciated working with Dr. Aubrey Woodroof as his enthusiasm is palpable. I expect this relationship will continue ad infinitum. To bad there isn't a "Scientific Hall of Fame.""

"Dr. Aubrey Woodroof has informed me that he is developing a new skin substitute. This is extremely exciting. Dr. Woodroof has a proven record of identifying difficult clinical problems and applying unique scientific solutions. His development of Biobrane, a biologic dressing with an active inner covered by an impermeable outer layer, set new standards for skin substitutes. I was privileged to be working with Dr. Martin Robson at the time and we were involved in several of the initial studies. Dr. Woodroof was the perfect combination of scientific inquisitiveness and human compassion. While wanting to know about the clinical performance of Biobrane, he was always interested in how the patient was doing. He listened carefully to our observations, both positive and negative, and worked on ways to improve the product. To a large extent, the success of Biobrane was due to the tenacity of Dr. Woodroof. That is why the new venture is so exciting. Dr. Woodroof has re-evaluated his original concept. He has altered the design for better porosity, improved occlusiveness and most importantly, better acute adherence. Improving these characteristics will result in a significantly enhanced product. I have no doubt, based on his track record, that Dr. Woodroof will be successful. He has the scientific insight and knowledge coupled with the contacts and clinical understanding to succeed. I am very excited to use this new product."

"Dr. Aubrey Woodroof's contribution of the synthetic skin substitute, Biobrane, to the armamentarium of burn wound products three decades ago has had a profound impact on modern burn care. Countless numbers of patients have benefitted from this material over the succeeding years. Now he will once again harness his extensive knowledge, determination, perseverance and impeccable scientific integrity to the creation of a new advanced synthetic skin substitute that will further improve the outcomes of burn patients for decades to come."
